This past Saturday, I met members of the Altadena Library Teen Advisory Council and about 300 other volunteers at Avery Hall at the LA Arboretum to pack up food and gift boxes for the 1400+ needy families that the Foothill Unity Center serves in the communities of Pasadena, Altadena, Arcadia, Azusa, Duarte, Irwindale and Monrovia.
I was amazed at all of the people (families, youth groups, boy scout troops, etc.) that came out to help in this busy holiday season. Then again, if not now.....when? And what a great time we had...you should have seen the organization. It was a huge assembly line process with volunteers taking shopping carts with boxes to be filled from table to table full of donations of everything from onions, nuts, and muffin mix to toothpaste and suntan lotion.... Depending on the size of the family(from x-small with 1-2 people to xx-large with 11+), we would put differing amounts of the item we had at our table in the boxes as they passed by. I was at the table with the salad dressing, almonds and muffin/cake mix. Check out our shots from Saturday!!!
